On the morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Kyiv's public transport is operating under heightened load and with significant schedule changes. According to the press service of the municipal enterprise Kyivpasstrans, the cause is the aftermath of a nighttime aerial attack, as well as a number of road traffic accidents that led to the closure of certain road sections. Passengers were advised to take the changes into account when planning their routes.
Timeline of Restrictions: From Tram Suspension to Bus Delays
The first official message appeared at 7:08 in the Kyivpasstrans Telegram channel: the enterprise reported that, as a result of an enemy aerial attack, the capital's public transport was operating with changes. At the same time, the operation of tram No. 25 was temporarily suspended. By 7:36 and 7:52, clarifications followed: due to traffic closures, the routes of several lines were altered. By 10:13, delays affected trolleybuses No. 12 and No. 14 on Petliura Street, and at 10:44 and 10:45 the routes of buses No. 119, No. 7, No. 24, No. 50 and No. 114 were adjusted — the latter were delayed on Petliura and Zhylyanska Streets in the direction of the Railway Station.
Accidents on Petliura and Zhylyanska: Police on Scene
A separate factor that worsened the road situation was road traffic accidents involving third-party vehicles. As of 10:13, it was precisely an accident that caused the delay of trolleybuses No. 12 and No. 14 on Petliura Street. At 10:45, the enterprise confirmed that a similar accident affected the movement of buses No. 7, No. 24, No. 50 and No. 114 on Petliura and Zhylyanska Streets. Police were called to both accident scenes. Thus, passenger delays were caused not only by the direct consequences of the nighttime strike, but also by accompanying emergency situations on the roadway.
Scale of Damage: Seven Districts, 14 High-Rise Buildings and Social Infrastructure
The context for the morning restrictions for passengers is defined by the scale of the nighttime attack. According to available data, the consequences of the strike were recorded in as many as seven districts of Kyiv. At least 14 high-rise residential buildings were damaged, along with a school, a polyclinic, a supermarket and a gas station. It was the damage to infrastructure and the need to clear/close sections of roads that led to changes in public transport routes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on the nighttime events, stated that the Russians deliberately tried to cause as much harm to the civilian population as possible.
