The night of August 1st became a time of new large-scale threat for the Ukrainian capital. Russian forces struck Kyiv using ballistic missiles. A series of powerful explosions rocked the city, breaking the silence and forcing residents to urgently seek shelter.
Alarm Signal and First Strikes
Information about the attack came from the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMA). At 01:30 AM, an air raid alarm was declared in the city due to the threat of ballistic weapon use. Authorities urged citizens to immediately use the nearest shelters and remain there until the alarm was lifted.
Simultaneously, the Air Force of Ukraine warned of preparations for missile launches from the Kursk region. By 01:32, a series of explosions was recorded in Kyiv, followed by a second wave of strikes a few minutes later.
Consequences of Strikes on Capital Districts
According to local authorities, damage and fires were recorded in four administrative districts: Solomianskyi, Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi. Power was cut off in several neighborhoods.
The situation in the Solomianskyi district proved to be the most critical. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that people were trapped in a five-story residential building due to falling missile debris. A fire broke out in the courtyard of the building. In this district, fire also engulfed a six-story non-residential building and parked cars.
In the Darnytskyi district, debris fell on non-residential construction territory. Currently, warehouse buildings are burning there, and the scale of the fire is being determined.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out at a car wash after the attack. In the Holosiivskyi district, the fall of debris was recorded on non-residential construction territory.
Casualties and Injured
The tragedy was not without human casualties. The Mayor of Kyiv announced the death of one person as a result of this attack. The number of injured rose to four people; all were hospitalized and are receiving qualified medical assistance.
As of 02:20 AM, the air raid alarm continued to be in effect in many regions of Ukraine. A reminder that this is not the first strike on the capital: on the night of July 30, Russia also launched a combined strike, resulting in fires recorded in Kyiv as well.
