Lenovo, known for its bold experiments with flexible and sliding displays, is preparing to launch another innovative device. The portal Windows Latest has published images of a new laptop from the ThinkBook lineup, which is being developed under the codename Project Swan. The main feature of the new product is a screen with a horizontal expansion function, which distinguishes it from the brand's previous models.
A New Era of Horizontal Scaling
Unlike its predecessors, where screens stretched vertically, Project Swan offers users the ability to increase their workspace horizontally. This solution could radically change the approach to mobile work with spreadsheets, code, or video editing, allowing for a format close to widescreen monitors in a compact chassis. The leaks show a classic ThinkBook design, but with a unique panel unfolding mechanism. Experts believe that the device presentation could take place as early as next month at the IFA international electronics exhibition in Berlin.
Evolution of the Rollable Lineup: From Vertical to Horizontal
This is not Lenovo's first experiment with sliding screens. A year ago, in 2025, the company released the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable model. It used a different approach: a 14-inch screen expanded vertically upwards to a 16.7-inch format. According to VideoCardz, this model is currently on sale for prices starting from $3299, although the initial starting price was $3499. Project Swan, it seems, is intended to be a logical continuation of this lineup, offering an alternative vector of expansion for different usage scenarios.
Context: CES 2026 and Future Concepts
The Project Swan model repeats the features of several experimental devices reported earlier. In particular, at the CES 2026 exhibition in January, the company presented the Legion Pro Rollable — a gaming laptop with a 16-inch OLED display that stretches to 21.5 or even 24 inches. A powerful configuration with the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card was claimed for this system, but unfortunately, the Legion Pro Rollable did not go into mass production. Also at CES, the ThinkPad Rollable XD concept was shown with a vertically rolling display, increasing the diagonal from 13.3 to 16 inches, and a partially transparent back cover.
Technical Details and Release Status
At the moment, the full specifications of Project Swan remain unknown. From the published images, one can note the presence of several USB Type-C ports on the laptop, which speaks of modern peripherals. The key question remains open: is Lenovo planning to release this laptop for mass sale, or is it another conceptual device intended to demonstrate the company's technological potential. Given the success of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, the chances of commercializing Project Swan look high.
