London is set to become the arena for the main showdown in women's high jump this season. On Saturday, July 18, the British capital will host the 11th leg of the most prestigious track and field series — the Diamond League 2026. For Ukrainian fans, this day will be pivotal, as it will feature the long-awaited duel between the world's two top athletes.
Meeting of the Main Rivals
For world record holder Yaryna Maguchikh, the London leg will be her second appearance of the current Diamond League season following her victory in Rabat. However, this event promises to be the most dramatic. For the first time in the outdoor portion of the season, the Ukrainian athlete will step into the sector against her main rival of recent years — Australian Nicola Olyslagers.
The history of the rivalry between these two athletes is eventful: in the Diamond League 2025 final, the Ukrainian lost to the Australian but managed to take revenge at the 2026 World Indoor Championships. Now in London, the stakes will be even higher, and the outcome of the match remains unpredictable.
Star-Studded Lineup
The high jump sector in London has gathered the elite of world sport. In the fight for medals, besides Maguchikh and Olyslagers, the following athletes will participate:
- Eleanor Patterson (Australia) — another star of the Australian high jump school;
- Angelina Topić (Serbia);
- Maria Joźwik (Poland);
- Lamara Distin (Jamaica);
- Maria Vuković (Montenegro);
- Morgan Lake (Great Britain) — the host nation's representative.
It is worth noting that Ukraine was initially planned to be represented by two athletes. However, Iryna Herashchenko was withdrawn from the entry list on the eve of the start, so Yaryna Maguchikh will defend her country's honor alone.
How to Follow the Events
The official starts in the women's high jump sector will begin at 16:10 Kyiv time. In Ukraine, the exclusive broadcaster of the Diamond League is "Suspilne Sport".
A live online broadcast of Yaryna Maguchikh's performance will be available for free on the official website and platforms of "Suspilne Sport", local "Suspilne Movernennya" TV channels, and the "Suspilne Athletics" YouTube channel.
Recall that prior to this start, Yaryna Maguchikh participated in the Ukrainian Summer Championships for the first time in five years and triumphantly won it, confirming her form ahead of the decisive stages of the season.
