U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that fundamentally new ideas must be put on the table to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing The Guardian.
Unacceptability of Old Proposals
According to Rubio, the proposals put forward earlier were not acceptable to Ukraine at that time and remain unacceptable now. The Secretary of State emphasized that under current conditions, these initiatives would likely become even less acceptable to Kyiv.
Necessity of New Approaches
Rubio noted that if peace is to come, it will happen thanks to some new idea and new concepts. He added that the U.S. is ready to offer some of these ideas under appropriate conditions and in an appropriate form, should such an opportunity arise and if the conditions are favorable.
"We are ready to play this role in a positive way," the U.S. Secretary of State stated, emphasizing Washington's readiness for constructive participation in the peace process provided necessary conditions are met.
