The security situation for the civilian population in the Dnipropetrovsk region has deteriorated to such an extent that authorities have decided to expand the zones of mandatory evacuation. Due to the constant threat of Russian shelling, hundreds of residents, including more than three hundred children, must leave dangerous areas and move to safe zones.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the head of the regional military administration, Alexander Ganch, large-scale measures have affected the Synelnykove district. There, a mandatory evacuation of children from ten villages has been announced. The operation covers 222 families raising 364 children.

Organization of safe evacuation

All available resources have been mobilized to conduct the evacuation: rescuers, law enforcement officers, and representatives of humanitarian organizations. Residents are being evacuated strictly along safe routes, delivering them to special transit centers. There, displaced persons are guaranteed comprehensive support.

Five such centers are currently operating in the region. People are provided with:

  • Financial, medical, psychological, and legal assistance;
  • Provision of food and hygiene products;
  • Assistance in restoring lost documents.

Scale of the operation

At present, the mandatory evacuation regime for the entire population has been introduced in three hromadas of the Nikopol district and eight hromadas of the Synelnykove district. Statistics from recent days show high population mobility: in the last ten days alone, more than 1,100 adults and over 400 children have left these territories.

Alexander Ganch, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, urged residents of settlements that are regularly subjected to attacks not to delay the decision to evacuate. Authorities strongly recommend leaving for safer regions in a timely manner while there is still an opportunity.

New rules for child protection

Parallel to mass evacuations, a new mechanism for protecting minors has been approved in Ukraine. Now, the procedure for evacuating children from areas of active and potential hostilities without the accompaniment of parents or legal representatives is legally fixed. The document regulates the process of evacuation, temporary placement, and ensuring the safety of children until they are reunited with their families.
