On the night of October 22, 2026, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv using attack drones and ballistic missiles. As a result of strikes across six districts of the capital, one person was killed and 22 civilians sustained injuries of varying severity, including children. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Kyiv.

Destruction and Consequences Across Capital Districts

Ballistic missile strikes hit six administrative districts of Kyiv simultaneously. In the Dniprovskyi district, one person was killed and five others were injured, including a child who was hospitalized. Damage was recorded in residential buildings and vehicles, and fires broke out at the impact sites.

The most extensive destruction was noted in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a non-residential building and a large restaurant complex caught fire. Emergency services promptly extinguished the blaze covering an area of 1,100 square meters. In the Pecherskyi district, residential buildings, ambulances, and a monastery territory were damaged by impacts, injuring eight people, including three children.

Affected Infrastructure and Transport Restrictions

In the Obolonskyi district, damage to non-residential facilities and local fires were recorded and subsequently extinguished; two people were injured. In the Holosiyivskyi district, six civilians were injured after a strike hit a non-residential building. In the Darnytskyi district, specialists recorded damage to transport infrastructure elements, with no casualty reports received from that area.

Amid the aftermath of the nighttime shelling, transport restrictions have been implemented in the capital. Due to damage and emergency operations, traffic on the South Bridge from the right bank to the left bank of the Dnipro has been temporarily restricted.

Significance of the Attack and Further Security Measures

The nighttime strike on the Ukrainian capital demonstrates the ongoing intensity of attacks on urban infrastructure using high-speed strike weapons. Emergency services are continuing debris removal and damage assessment operations for residential housing and municipal utilities. Authorities urge residents to follow safety rules during air raid alerts and remain in shelters.
