On the night of July 16 to 17, Ukraine was subjected to a large-scale missile and drone strike. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy used a wide range of weaponry, launching targets from temporarily occupied Crimea and the territory of the Russian Federation. The attack lasted from 6:00 PM until the morning of the next day, covering the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
Multivector Threat
According to the Air Force report, drone strikes were carried out from several directions simultaneously. Launches were recorded from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, and Orel in the Russian Federation, as well as from the occupied territories of Crimea — Donetsk and Hvardiiske. Such dispersion of the attack complicated the work of air defense systems, however, Ukrainian crews managed to neutralize a significant part of the threat.
Air Defense Results
By the morning of July 17, at 08:00, Ukraine's air defense had destroyed or suppressed most of the targets. Despite this, enemy weapons reached seven locations. Direct hits by two missiles and eight strike drones were recorded in these places. In another five settlements, debris from shot-down targets fell, which also poses risks to infrastructure and civilians.
Consequences of the Strikes
The attack did not go without human casualties and destruction. In particular, a missile strike on Odesa resulted in the loss of life. The tragedy occurred in a park area, where a woman walking with children was killed. Fortunately, the children survived. Earlier, during other attacks, the enemy used guided aerial bombs on Sumy, where a direct hit was also recorded.
