The night of July 22 became one of the most tense for Ukraine in recent times. The Russian Federation organized a large-scale air assault, deploying an unprecedented number of strike assets. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attack involved 4 missiles and 216 attack unmanned aerial vehicles launched from various directions.
Scale of the Operation and Air Defense Efforts
Repelling the massive strike required the coordination of all components of the country's defense system. The battle involved aviation, air defense missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units, and drone operators. Mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, operating in the north, south, center, and east of the country, played a key role.
As of 08:30 AM, the Ukrainian air defense reported the following results:
- 3 Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missiles were shot down or suppressed.
- 204 enemy drones were neutralized.
Impacts and Consequences
Despite the active efforts of the sky defenders, it was not possible to completely prevent the strikes. Enemy unmanned aerial vehicles are still detected in the airspace, forcing authorities to urge citizens to adhere to safety rules.
Preliminary data indicates that one Iskander-M ballistic missile and 12 attack drones hit their targets. The strikes affected 12 different locations. Additionally, debris from shot-down targets was recorded falling in 7 other areas, which also poses risks to the population and infrastructure.
Casualties Among Civilians
Particular attention is drawn to the situation in the Kyiv region, where an attack also took place during the night. In the Bucha district, five civilians were injured, including three children. According to rescue services, the victims suffered acute stress reactions.
Material damage was also inflicted: five private houses were damaged as a result of the attack. The situation remains tense, and authorities continue to monitor the situation in the airspace.
