During the night, one of the largest air attacks in recent times struck Ukrainian territory. Russian forces launched an assault using an unprecedented number of munitions: according to Ukrainian military data, 28 missiles and 115 unmanned aerial vehicles were launched.
Air Defense Breach and Strike on Kyiv
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that air defense systems failed to fully neutralize the threat. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed that Russian ballistic missiles breached the defense. The main vector of the attack was the Kyiv region, where strikes hit key infrastructure facilities.
As of 08:30 AM, Ukrainian military forces managed to shoot down or suppress 98 enemy drones. Among the destroyed targets are drones of the "Shahed", "Gerber", "Italmas" types and other modifications that attacked the north, south, and east of the country. However, despite the active work of the air defense, some strike assets reached their targets.
Consequences of Strikes and Casualties
The press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded serious consequences of the night raid. Missiles and 17 strike UAVs hit 26 different locations. In addition, debris from shot-down drones and missiles fell on six more territories, creating a threat to the civilian population and infrastructure.
In Kyiv, the number of casualties from the air attack increased significantly. A tragedy also occurred in the Kyiv region, where dead bodies were found at a railway platform after the strike. The situation remains tense: Ukrainian military forces warn that the attack is ongoing, and enemy drones are still in the airspace.
Recommendations for the Population
In connection with the continuing threat, the Ukrainian Armed Forces urge citizens to strictly observe safety rules. Residents of the regions subjected to shelling are strongly advised to remain in shelters until the official announcement of the end of the air raid alarm.
