A serious accident occurred in the energy infrastructure of the Chernihiv region. According to JSC "Chernihivoblenergo", a critically important energy facility was damaged as a result of an enemy attack. This led to a massive power outage in the region.
Scale of the energy accident
Preliminary damage assessments indicate that more than 100,000 consumers are left without electricity. The affected areas include:
- Chernihiv city;
- Chernihiv district;
- Koriukivka district.
Energy workers have confirmed the damage to the facility, however, details of the incident remain classified due to the current situation at the front.
Restoration work
Specialists from "Chernihivoblenergo" are already preparing a plan to restore power supply. However, the start of active work depends directly on safety factors. As noted by the company, crews will go to the line as soon as the situation allows this to be done without risk to the personnel's lives.
Winter season context
The incident occurred against the backdrop of intensified discussions regarding the energy system's readiness for winter. Previously, the media raised the question of whether Ukraine would have enough resources to ensure heat and light during the cold period. The Cabinet of Ministers, led by Dmytro Kuleba, has been tasked with finding optimal solutions to protect energy facilities from Russian attacks during the winter season.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced new appointments in the field of air defense, which is expected to strengthen the protection of the country's airspace and critical infrastructure.
