On the night of July 25, Belgorod became the target of a large-scale attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. According to OSINT channels and reports on Russian social media, the strikes hit logistics warehouses and critical energy infrastructure facilities in the region.

Fires at the TPP and substations

Special attention in the situation reports on the city is paid to the area of the "Luch" thermal power plant. Thick smoke is observed on the territory of the thermal power plant, particularly in the area of the electrical substation, indicating a fire. In addition, an attack on the "Yuzhnaya" electrical substation, located directly within the city limits of Belgorod, has been confirmed. A fire also broke out in this area, accompanied by heavy smoke.

Government response and warnings

Alexander Shuvaev, the acting governor of the Belgorod region, confirmed the fact of the night drone attack. In his message on social media, he urged city residents to observe strict safety measures. The official statement contained a warning about damage and active fire foci on the streets, which are currently being extinguished by fire crews.

Shuvaev strongly recommended that citizens refrain from traveling, stay indoors, and avoid approaching windows due to the ongoing threat and the work of emergency services.

Context of shelling in the region

The attack on the night of July 25 is not an isolated incident. Belgorod and the region are regularly subjected to strikes. At the beginning of July, the city already experienced the consequences of a missile attack, which damaged the local thermal power plant, leaving some residents without electricity. A similar situation occurred on the night of July 3 to 4, when a series of explosions led to a power outage in the city.

The main target of the periodic strikes on the region remains the damage to energy infrastructure. Experts and sources indicate that such actions are a response to regular attacks by the RF on energy facilities in Ukraine. Belgorod has been under threat of strikes for several years in a row, which is confirmed by the history of shelling, including the incident on the day of the Russian presidential election in 2024, when voting in the region was disrupted due to an attack.
