Infrastructure in Belgorod and surrounding areas has come under unprecedented pressure at the end of July. The main targets of the attacks were energy and transport logistics facilities, specifically the network of gas stations. In a short period of time, more than 25% of all gas stations in the region were hit.
Scale of strikes on fuel infrastructure
According to an investigative report by the publication "Ash.Belgorod", between July 19 and 23, unmanned aerial vehicles struck 19 out of 71 operating gas stations in the city and its agglomeration. This means that almost every fourth gas station (26.7% of the total) was hit.
The attacks were massive, leading to serious consequences for the operation of the region's fuel market. Fires broke out at many facilities, fuel dispensers, tanks, and canopies were damaged. Visual reports record burnt cars and destroyed equipment on the territory of gas stations.
Context of escalation in the region
Strikes on gas stations became part of the general picture of regular attacks on the Belgorod region, which recently have caused damage to energy, industrial, and civilian infrastructure facilities.
The situation in the region remains tense and unstable. On the night of July 7, explosions and fires were again recorded in Belgorod as a result of a missile attack. Earlier, on the night of July 4, a series of hits on the local thermal power plant led to a total blackout: electricity disappeared in almost the entire city and suburbs. Another example of destructive impact was the event on June 23, when the region's industrial zone was hit, and missiles damaged a local chalk plant.
