A natural disaster has struck the Pingshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County in Chongqing city. A powerful landslide collapsed part of a mountain slope directly onto a residential area, turning a quiet day into a chaotic rescue operation.
Footage shown by China Central Television demonstrates the scale of the disaster: huge boulders and tons of earth have buried more than ten residential buildings. As a result of the incident, many people are trapped in their homes or completely cut off from the outside world.
Mobilization of rescue forces
The authorities reacted instantly. Immediately upon receiving the alarm about the emergency, a large-scale search and rescue operation was deployed to the scene. 110 professional rescuers were dispatched. The teams included not only rescuers but also engineers and geologists, necessary for assessing ground stability and searching for victims.
To work in difficult conditions, 50 sets of specialized search and rescue equipment were delivered.
Power collapse and utility workers
The consequences of the landslide affected not only residential buildings but also critical infrastructure. Landslide masses buried three power line pylons, leading to a complete disruption of electricity supply in the affected area. This complicated the work of rescuers, depriving them of the ability to use lighting and machinery during the night.
Local energy companies quickly mobilized forces to restore communications. 53 employees went to the line, 12 repair vehicles and an emergency power supply vehicle were deployed.
Situation on the ground
According to the latest data, the exact number of people still trapped under the rubble has not yet been established. Rescuers continue their work, trying to reach the trapped residents and assess the actual situation in the buried houses.
