The new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mikhail Drapatyi, has commented on his appointment and outlined his approach to carrying out the tasks set by the President. He wrote about this on his Facebook page, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
In his statement, Drapatyi emphasized that difficult work lies ahead. He outlined the principles he will follow in his new position: responsibility for every decision, respect for the people holding the front line, and a refusal to make loud promises.
Tasks from the President
The Commander-in-Chief stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has set clear tasks for him. Drapatyi assured that he will work on fulfilling them, relying on the real situation and the interests of the country.
The appointment took place on July 21. Mikhail Drapatyi replaced Oleksandr Syrskyi in this position. According to Bloomberg sources, 11 candidates were considered for the post, but Drapatyi, who previously headed the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was considered the most likely choice.
The combat path of the new commander
Mikhail Drapatyi possesses significant combat experience. Key episodes of the war are behind him: the breakthrough from the 'Izvarin pocket', stopping the offensive on Kryvyi Rih, and participation in the liberation of the right-bank Kherson region. This experience became one of the factors in the decision to appoint him.
