Ukrainian military medic Viktor, known by his call sign "Vitsyk", has published a touching photoshoot with his pregnant wife on Instagram, announcing a new addition to the family. In the pictures, the defender poses in combat gear against the backdrop of a setting sun and a Ukrainian flag, while his wife in a long black dress presses her hands to her rounded belly. Vitsyk accompanied the shots with a personal confession: "Eight years of war. And one dream that I carried through it all."

A dream carried through the frontline

In the caption to the photos, the soldier shared that during his years of service he had grown accustomed to constant separations from loved ones, danger, and brief returns home, but even in the hardest moments he thought about a future child. "I dreamed of becoming a father. Not just someday, not abstractly — I dreamed of our child. A child from the woman I love most of all," he wrote. The couple had been planning the pregnancy since February 2026 and, despite the uncertainty associated with the war, continued to believe in the realization of their dream. "Now my heart beats not only within me," Vitsyk added, acknowledging that he does not know what tomorrow will bring or whether he will always be able to be near his family, but does not want fear of the unknown to rob him of his faith in a happy future.

Wedding in August 2026

Viktor and his wife became husband and wife on August 26, 2026. The soldier also shared this joyful event on Instagram by publishing romantic wedding photographs. In that post, he confessed that meeting his beloved changed his life and helped him look at what he had been through in a new way, emphasizing that what matters most to him is not the number of trials, but the person for whose sake he overcame them. Now, as the couple awaits a child, Vitsyk calls upcoming fatherhood the fulfillment of their shared dream.

The path from Mykolaiv to the 79th Brigade

Vitsyk is a native of Mykolaiv and a combat medic of the 79th Separate Air Assault Tavrian Brigade. In 2018, he signed his first contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. After completing his contract, Viktor returned to civilian life and left for Poland, where he worked as a mechanic. However, with the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he decided to return: on February 24, 2022, Vitsyk joined the defense of the country once again. Thus, by the time the pregnancy was announced, he had accumulated eight years of continuous service and defense of his native land.

A personal story as part of a common narrative

Vitsyk's story is one of many that now make up the daily routine of Ukrainian military personnel: years at the front, separations, short leaves, and attempts to build a personal life in conditions where tomorrow remains unknown. The publication of the photoshoot with his pregnant wife became not just a family announcement, but public testimony that even in a protracted conflict, people continue to dream, marry, and plan for the future. Vitsyk speaks directly about this: he does not know if he will be next to his family at the moment of the child's birth, but refuses to let fear replace his belief that their dream is achievable.
