On the evening of September 7, 2026, an unprecedented light installation unfolded over one of the capital's main landmarks — the Motherland Monument. For the first time in Ukrainian history, the emblem and attributes of military intelligence were projected onto the surface of Kyiv's largest sculpture. The public event was timed to the Day of Military Intelligence and turned into a gesture of recognition of the intelligence officers' contribution to the defense of the country, which they continue to carry out amid the war for freedom.
For the First Time in Ukrainian History
As the organizers note, such a 3D projection on the Motherland Monument has been carried out for the first time in the entire history of Ukraine. The light show was not merely an artistic solution but a symbolic act: against the backdrop of the night sky, the figure of the "Motherland" was visually "armed" and "adorned" with signs associated with the work of military intelligence. By design, such means help the Defense Forces reduce the capabilities of the Russian aggressor during combat, and it was precisely this link between intelligence and the defense of the capital that the installation's authors sought to show viewers.
The Symbols Kyiv Residents Saw
On the capital's largest sculpture, Kyiv residents could recognize several recognizable symbols of military intelligence. At the center of the composition, a circular emblematic image with a sword glowed on the figure's torso, while a shield bearing the state trident "appeared" in the sculpture's left hand and a raised sword in its right. The inscription "Main Directorate of Intelligence" was projected onto the monument's pedestal, and next to the composition stood a flagpole flying the Ukrainian flag with a trident on its finial. The combination of these elements allowed viewers to literally "read" the dedication to military intelligence in the language of state and military symbols.
The Film "GUR: Code 'Sikora'" and Operation "Sinitsa"
On the same date, the creators of the film about military intelligence released the official trailer for the picture "GUR: Code 'Sikora'". The script was based on a real intelligence special operation called "Sinitsa", carried out in August 2023. At that time, a Russian pilot flew a Mi-8 AMTSh helicopter carrying secret equipment into Ukraine. Thus, the cinematic project and the light installation on the monument were linked by a single theme — a public account of military intelligence work based on real events.
Statements by GUR Leadership on Winter Threats
Against the backdrop of these events, the operational assessments by the department's leadership remain relevant. GUR Head Oleg Ivashchenko previously named Russia's main goals for the coming winter. According to him, the adversary is preparing combined missile and drone strikes on energy and heating facilities. These statements underscore that public actions dedicated to military intelligence take place in the context of an ongoing war and the preparation of infrastructure for a possible escalation in the autumn-winter period.
