A sensational criminal case is unfolding in Kiev, linked to a tragedy at a military commissariat. The Podilskyi District Court of Kiev has decided to detain a man who attacked a member of the military-medical commission (MMC) on July 29. The court refused to consider the option of bail, leaving the suspect in custody.
Details of the crime and motives
The tragedy occurred on July 29 around 15:30 at the building of the ad hoc Military-Medical Commission No. 1 at the Podilskyi District TCC of Kiev. A resident of the capital was forcibly brought to the institution as he was wanted for evading the mandatory medical examination.
According to the investigation, the man behaved calmly before the attack. He complained of severe toothache and insisted on a thorough examination. According to him, he hoped to get a postponement for a few days for treatment. However, when it became obvious that the doctors would declare him fit for service, the situation changed dramatically.
At that moment, the suspect inflicted about 17 chaotic knife wounds on the 55-year-old surgeon. The injuries were to the specialist's chest, neck, and hands. Medical assistance could not save the victim.
Criminal prosecution
Investigators from the Podilskyi Police Department promptly detained the attacker. He was officially charged under item 8 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article classifies the act as intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of his official duties.
The legislation provides for severe punishment for such a crime, up to life imprisonment. The court, considering the prosecutor's petition, chose a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to post bail.
