Strike on Mykolaiv: Metro hypermarket damaged
On the evening of 8 September 2026, Russian forces carried out a strike on Mykolaiv. As a result of the attack, a hypermarket of the Metro chain was damaged: windows in the building were shattered and the roof was breached. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a post by the Suspilne TV channel. At the time of writing, no official data on casualties from this incident had been released.
Witness accounts
A local resident named Anatoliy, who lives near the hypermarket, told Suspilne correspondents that he heard loud explosions during the attack. From the balcony of his tenth-floor apartment, the man saw the store's roof catch fire. "I can see from the tenth floor: the roof is breached, in one place and in another. Things burned inside, I think so," he said. Another resident, Ivan, also heard the explosions but, according to him, had not yet seen the aftermath of the attack. He noted that people, children, and students were frightened, emphasizing that everyone wants to live.
Two strikes on the facility
The first to report the attack on the Metro hypermarket was the local Telegram channel "Mykolaivskyi Vanek." According to its data, in addition to strikes on port infrastructure, Russian forces delivered two strikes on the hypermarket building in Mykolaiv. Thus, the damage to the roof and glazing described by witnesses may be linked to multiple hits on the facility.
Context: aftermath of the 20 August attack
Recall that following the Russian attack on the night of 20 August, the Metro Ukraine chain had already lost part of its stock. The company was then forced to restructure its supply chains to reduce the impact of the strike's aftermath on customers and partners. Metro had warned that short-term disruptions in the availability of certain products and minor delivery delays were possible in the near future. The new strike on the facility in Mykolaiv once again raises questions about the resilience of the chain's logistics and product supply in the region.
