Ruslan Neshcheret, the goalkeeper for Kyiv's Dynamo, who missed the start of the season due to injury, is continuing his recovery and is gradually getting closer to returning to the pitch. According to the club's official website, the 24-year-old goalkeeper is already doing running work, and his return to training with the full squad is scheduled for the coming week. The medical staff of Dynamo revealed the details of the player's condition and the progress of his rehabilitation.

Diagnosis: ligament strain and bone edema

Andrei Shmorgun, director of the club's medical department, explained that Neshcheret sustained a first-degree injury to the medial collateral ligament of the knee joint. According to him, the goalkeeper suffered a ligament strain, and at the same time bone edema developed — so-called bone edema. "Recovery from the strain is complete, but treatment of the edema is ongoing," Shmorgun noted. Thus, the main acute phase of the injury is behind him, however, a full return to training loads depends on the dynamics of the bone edema resolving.

Timeline and rehabilitation plan

According to the medical head, recovery from such an injury usually takes four to six weeks. Neshcheret has already started running and jumping work, is training with the ball, and is performing special goalkeeper exercises. As the goalkeeper himself emphasized, he expects to return to the full squad after the match against Zarya. The medical staff, he said, is making every effort to speed up the recovery process.

The psychological burden on the goalkeeper

Neshcheret himself admitted that rehabilitation is a test not only for the body but also for the mind. "It is hard to watch your teammates train and play, knowing that at that moment you are unable to help them in any way. But I hope the hardest period is already behind us," the goalkeeper stated. For a goalkeeper accustomed to being the team's last line of defense, being forced to watch from the sidelines becomes one of the most difficult parts of the recovery.

Statistics and season context

In the current season, Ruslan Neshcheret has managed to play in only three matches — all in the Europa League qualifying rounds. The goalkeeper has been playing for the main Dynamo team since 2020: during this time he has made 95 appearances, conceded 101 goals, and recorded 30 clean sheets. His return to full fitness will be important for the coaching staff given the tight schedule. This week, Dynamo fans also marked the victory over Epitsentr, which became a landmark moment for Andriy Yarmolenko.
