However, according to him, current actions do not create a direct threat to Ukraine's security. Experts note that since 2022, Belarusian authorities have used rhetoric about a "potential threat" from Kyiv as justification for large-scale army modernization and the deployment of new combat units. This allows Minsk to legitimize increased military spending and the presence of Russian instructors under the guise of "joint exercises".
Formation of an Air Assault Brigade
Particular attention is drawn to the creation of a new air assault formation located only 40 km from the Ukrainian border. According to available data, the first battalion has already been formed, and during the current year, the deployment of a second battalion, as well as artillery, air defense, reconnaissance, and combat support units, is planned. This formation could become a key element in Belarus's defense system, but it could also be used as a tool of pressure on Ukraine or even as a cover for a possible deployment of Russian troops.

While official representatives of the SBGS insist on the absence of an immediate threat, military commentators, such as Ivan Timochko, express cautious optimism. Timochko emphasizes that the available intelligence is currently insufficient for a full assessment of the real capabilities of the new unit. He questions whether the creation of the brigade is an independent initiative of the Belarusian leadership or the result of coordination with Moscow. It also remains unclear what the structure of the personnel and armament of the new formation will be — this could radically change its tactical purpose.
Russia's Role in Belarusian Militarization
Despite the formal independence of Belarus, many experts link the strengthening of its military potential to Russia's interests. In the context of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine and the sanctions pressure on Moscow, Minsk could serve as a buffer zone or even a launching pad for future operations. The flags of Belarus and Russia, waving side by side against the backdrop of soldiers, symbolize the close cooperation between the two countries, which often goes beyond official agreements.

Ukrainian intelligence services continue to assess the purpose and real capabilities of the new Belarusian formation. It is important to establish whether it will be used exclusively for the defense of Belarus or will become a tool of hybrid pressure on Ukraine. In any case, Kyiv remains vigilant and ready for various scenarios. For now, according to Demchenko, "one should not expect that this is something that could create a threat to our country".
