The food market in Ukraine is showing dynamics characteristic of the summer sales period and seasonal promotions. As of Thursday, August 6, major retailers — the Silpo, Novus, ATB, and Auchan chains — have adjusted their price lists, offering buyers new conditions for staple foods. Experts and journalists from RBK-Ukraine conducted a price monitoring, identifying leaders in the categories of cereals, oils, eggs, and bread.

The battle for the "basket": buckwheat and eggs

In the category of cereals, which remain the foundation of the consumer basket, there is fierce competition. The Silpo chain has held the leadership in the minimum cost of buckwheat groats for the second day in a row, offering the product at a price that makes it one of the most affordable on the market. This indicates the retailer's strategy to maintain customer loyalty through price leadership on basic goods.

The situation with eggs also has its nuances. When buying eggs individually, the Auchan chain holds the minimum price per dozen. However, if considering packaged items (cardboard cartons), the most favorable prices are fixed in Silpo and ATB. Buyers are advised to compare the cost of the package and the price per unit, as the benefit may vary depending on the purchase format.

Oil and bread: where it is more profitable to buy

In the segment of vegetable oil, specifically sunflower oil, Silpo launched a new promotion, lowering the price of a half-liter bottle of "Premia" brand oil. Nevertheless, the lowest price threshold for this product is still held by Auchan, maintaining its status as a discounter in this category.

In the category of bakery products, relative price stability is recorded. The cheapest offer in the sliced bread category remains the half-loaf sold in the Silpo chain. This offer remains relevant for those looking for minimum expenses on daily food products.

New players in the online segment

An interesting shift occurred in the segment of large product packages. The Novus chain, which is actively developing its online direction, appeared in the top offers with a favorable price for a large package (900 g). This offer is available primarily for online orders, indicating the retailers' strategy to stimulate remote purchases through special price offers not available in physical stores.
