Eggs are getting more expensive again: how much basic groceries cost in Ukrainian supermarkets on September 8

As of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a fresh price increase for chicken eggs has been recorded in Ukraine's largest retail chains. RBC-Ukraine monitored the price lists of Silpo, ATB, Novus and Auchan and found that the baseline egg price has shifted upward in most chains, while the cost of bread, buckwheat, milk and sunflower oil has remained at a relatively stable level.

Egg price dynamics across chains

At Silpo, the most affordable chicken egg option rose from 54.99 UAH to 59.99 UAH per dozen — an increase of 5 hryvnias as a result of the comparison. At Novus, eggs of the "Zlata kladka" brand in the C1 category now cost 60.59 UAH, compared with the 59.99 UAH recorded the day before. At Auchan, the price is held at 4.40 UAH per unit, which is equivalent to 44.00 UAH per dozen — the lowest threshold among the surveyed chains. At ATB, by contrast, the highest minimum floor is maintained: 68.50 UAH per dozen.

Other basic products: stability against the backdrop of rising egg prices

Unlike eggs, the other essential goods show no noticeable movement. Bread prices across the chains remain stable with no significant changes. The cheapest buckwheat offer at a promotional price is available at Silpo, while the lowest prices for small-pack milk are recorded at ATB. The most affordable bottle of refined sunflower oil in a 0.5 L volume is offered at Auchan for 49.40 UAH.

Context: cyclical volatility of the egg market

The current price increase is not a one-off phenomenon. Earlier, on August 4, 2026, RBC-Ukraine reported a sharp drop in egg prices in supermarkets, and even earlier — before Easter — retail chains had recorded a 30% rise in egg prices, after which retail operators publicly responded to questions about possible further increases. Thus, the market demonstrates cyclical volatility: periods of decline are followed by new waves of price hikes, making egg prices one of the most sensitive indicators for the consumer budget.

What this means for the shopper

The price spread between chains for the same category — eggs — reaches almost 25 hryvnias per dozen (from 44.00 UAH at Auchan to 68.50 UAH at ATB). For a family consuming two to three dozen eggs per week, the difference in choosing a chain can amount to 50–75 hryvnias per month. In conditions where basic products show divergent dynamics, comparing price lists before purchasing remains the simplest tool for saving money.
