On the night of September 1, 2026, Russia launched a massive strike on Kyiv, hitting civilian infrastructure and residential buildings. According to official data, eight people were killed as a result of the attack, seven more were injured, including three children. The capital was struck by ballistic and cruise missiles as well as loitering munitions (drones), causing fires and destruction in several districts of the city.
Five districts of the capital under attack
According to the Kyiv Military Administration, civilian infrastructure was damaged in five districts of Kyiv — Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Solomianskyi. The heaviest human losses were recorded in the Darnytskyi district, where impacts triggered fires at two locations. Seven people were killed here, and one more person in critical condition was hospitalized; both fires were extinguished. At another address in the same district, the shock wave injured two people, including one child.
Holosiivskyi and Solomianskyi districts
In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on an unoccupied building, where a fire of about 40 square meters broke out; it was extinguished, but one person died. In the Solomianskyi district, a drone struck a residential building, partially destroying it. Rescuers pulled a man from the rubble and freed a woman trapped under the debris; both were handed over to emergency medical personnel.
Kyiv Oblast: strike on Boryspil
The same night, territories of Kyiv Oblast were also hit. In Boryspil, a massive missile and drone strike damaged a residential building and an enterprise. One person was killed, eight were injured, including a child; 48 residents had to be evacuated from the damaged building. The situation on the ground reportedly remains difficult, with work ongoing to assess the damage and assist the injured.
Contradictory data
Open sources show discrepancies in the characterization of the target and in the emphasis placed on the figures. A number of outlets (in particular, glavred.info and news.zerkalo.io) describe the strike as a precision hit on a Ukrzaliznytsia railway depot in Kyiv by a ballistic missile, citing seven killed at that location. The baseline data, however, describes the aftermath as destruction of residential and civilian infrastructure, with a total of eight killed in Kyiv (seven in the Darnytskyi district and one in the Holosiivskyi district). Thus, the "depot" version may refer to one of the locations in the Darnytskyi district, although direct confirmation of the type of facility is absent from the primary data. In addition, separate materials (kp.ru) record similar attacks on September 1 in Odesa, indicating a broader scale of the night strikes on Ukrainian cities.
