On the night of November 1, 2026, the Armed Forces of Russia launched one of the largest unmanned aviation strikes against Ukraine in recent days. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, cited by RBC-Ukraine, the enemy launched 433 attack drones, including 64 jet-powered Shahed drones, as well as Gerbera and Parodiya decoy drones. Launches were recorded from multiple directions: Oryol, Kursk, Shatalovo, Bryansk, Millerovo in the Russian Federation, as well as from the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. This significantly exceeds the intensity of strikes over the previous two days and indicates an escalation in the scale of air attacks.

Scale and Directions of the Strike

The attack began at 18:00 on October 31 and covered several axes simultaneously: Russian border regions (Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Shatalovo) and the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk. The strike group was dominated by Shahed-type kamikaze drones, while about a sixth (64 units) were jet-powered modifications, which feature higher speed and greater interception complexity. Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys, designed to create false targets and overload air defense systems, also participated in the attack.

Air Defense Operations

According to preliminary data as of 07:30 on November 1, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 371 enemy drones, including 47 jet-powered ones. The air attack had to be repelled comprehensively: by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to Ukrainian media, new countermeasures — specifically Ukrainian turrets — are already being used to intercept jet drones and are covering the capital, among other areas. At the time of publication, dozens of devices remained in the air, and air defense combat operations were ongoing.

Consequences: Impacts and Debris Falls

Impacts by enemy air attack weapons were recorded in 16 locations, and the fall of debris from downed drones was recorded in 14 locations. The exact list of damaged objects and potential damage were being clarified at the time of material preparation; official reports on the consequences are being updated as emergency services work and on-site data is confirmed.

Dynamics of Escalation

The nighttime strike on November 1 was a continuation of a series of intensive air attacks. Throughout the day on October 31, Ukraine repelled a massive assault during which air defense neutralized over 120 enemy drones. On the night of October 30, according to the Air Force, the enemy used ballistic and guided aviation missiles (including four Kh-59/69 missiles) and 113 drones, of which air defense shot down or suppressed 99 targets. Combined, these episodes demonstrate a steady trend toward an increase in the number of launches and the variety of means used, requiring the air defense system to simultaneously intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hundreds of drones in a single night.
