On the night of October 7, 2026, the Kyiv region suffered a large-scale combined attack using strike drones and ballistic missiles. The enemy targeted not only critical infrastructure facilities but also peaceful civilian sites, including specialized animal shelters.

Destruction of the Shelter in Vyshhorod District

According to Irina Snopko, co-founder of the center, a direct hit in the Vyshhorod District completely burned down the "Nyushanik Manor" bird rehabilitation center. The fire totally destroyed the bird hospital, chicken coop, and quail enclosure, where rescued wild and domestic birds, as well as a cat, were kept.

Scale of Destruction and Equipment Loss

In addition to the death of the shelter's residents, the night fire destroyed all specialized medical equipment, enclosures, and strategic feed reserves prepared for the winter period. Restoring the infrastructure to its previous state will require colossal resources and time.

Significance of "Nyushanik Manor" for Regional Ecology

"Nyushanik Manor" played a unique role in the region, specializing in helping birds of prey and waterfowl, including storks, swans, owls, hawks, and kestrels. Birds unable to return to the wild found a permanent home here, while center specialists provided public consultations.

Massive Missile Strike on Ukraine

The attack on the shelter occurred amid a massive strike on Ukrainian regions, during which Russian forces launched about 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the energy sector was once again a primary target.
