Ukrainian cities are moving forward with launching the heating season for the population, with Odesa and Lviv among the first to announce specific timelines. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing statements from the city authorities of both cities. Amid the cold snap, utility services are completing preparatory work, while city halls are coordinating the heat supply procedure and response mechanisms for possible emergency situations.
Odesa: Boiler Houses Scheduled to Start Around November 9
In Odesa, the launch of boiler houses is planned approximately in a week and a half to two weeks, meaning the heating season could begin around November 9. First Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Filatov noted on October 29 that utility services are ready to start supplying heat earlier if weather conditions worsen or an appropriate decision is made. According to the municipal enterprise "Odesa City Heat Supply," preparatory work is in its final stages.
Hotlines and Coordination with HOA and Housing Cooperatives
Odesa also plans to launch round-the-clock district hotlines for resident inquiries. Heads of district administrations will meet with the chairs of HOAs and housing cooperatives to coordinate actions in the event of emergency power outages, emergencies, or heating supply interruptions. Simultaneously, deputies of the Odesa City Council supported a draft decision on concluding an agreement with Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC on the distribution of natural gas nominations for city needs, and city authorities urged Odesa residents to pay off accumulated debts for heat supply.
Lviv: Heating to Be Turned On on Friday, October 30
In Lviv, the heating season will begin on Friday, October 30 — a corresponding decree was signed by Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. According to him, starting the system may take several days, so heat will flow into homes gradually. City authorities expect that heating will appear in Lviv residents' homes already over the weekend.
Context: Other Cities Have Already Turned On Heat
Recall that due to the cold snap, a number of Ukrainian cities started the heating season for the population from October 28: in particular, heat was turned on in Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi. In both cities, the supply is being carried out gradually, as starting the system takes time. Thus, Odesa and Lviv are joining the general trend towards a phased start of the heating season across the country.
