Odesa Region Hit by Massive Missile and Drone Attack on August 24: Strikes on Warehouses and Energy Infrastructure, Fires

On the morning of August 24, 2026, the Odesa region was again subjected to a massive missile and drone attack. This was announced at 08:32 in his Telegram channel by Oleksandr Prudnik, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, who emphasized that "Odesa is once again under a massive missile and drone attack by the enemy." According to him, the strikes hit food storage facilities and the region's energy infrastructure.

Targets and consequences of the strikes

As clarified by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), the impacts caused fires at energy and gas infrastructure facilities as well as in storage premises. In the suburbs of Odesa, a forest belt caught fire after a direct hit, and private houses were also struck. At the time of publication, the aftermath of the attack was already being dealt with at the scene, and social media is showing footage of rescuers in smoke-covered gear working near a fire-rescue vehicle with its equipment laid out.

On the one hand, the RMA's initial message and a number of reports state that information about a fire at the "Episenter" hypermarket had not received official confirmation, and that data on casualties had not arrived at the time of Prudnik's statement. On the other hand, a number of Ukrainian media outlets (in particular, NV) are already reporting that Russia struck two "Episenter" facilities in Odesa and that firefighting operations are ongoing. Thus, the fact of the attack on the region is officially confirmed, while the specific list of damaged facilities (including "Episenter") and the presence of casualties at the time of publication remain a matter of contradictory data and require clarification.

Context: a series of attacks on the region

The August 24 attack was a continuation of a series of strikes on the Odesa region. As early as August 23, according to Prudnik, a two-story residential building was damaged in the latest attack; the fire at the impact site was quickly extinguished by rescuers, and there were no casualties. Earlier reports also mentioned a "Shahed" loitering-muave drone hitting a passenger train in the Odesa region, the deaths of three people in the suburbs of Kharkiv, and damage to a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih following a Russian strike.
