Body found under the rubble of a damaged high-rise in Odesa: what is known after the overnight attack

In Odesa, rescuers discovered a human body while clearing the rubble of a damaged multi-story residential building. This was reported by Serhiy Lyssak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, according to RBC-Ukraine. The identity of the deceased is currently being established, and emergency search operations at the scene are ongoing. The incident was the result of a nighttime Russian attack that caused significant damage to the residential building.

Course of the attack and launch warnings

The strike on Odesa came on the night of September 12. Around five in the morning, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of launches of Kalibr cruise missiles from the waters of the Black Sea, as well as the threat of ballistic missile use from the territory of Crimea. As a result of the attack, a multi-story residential building was severely damaged, and it was there that the rubble-clearing operations were subsequently carried out.

Rubble clearance and discovery of the body

Emergency services were working at the scene, and an operational headquarters was set up to coordinate assistance to the injured. It was during the dismantling of the collapsed structures that rescuers came across a human body. Search operations have not ceased: it was previously noted that the fate of two people remained unknown, and it was within the framework of these search efforts that the body of the deceased was found. Establishing the identity and the full scope of search operations are ongoing.

Casualties and their condition

The number of casualties grew throughout the day. According to the latest data, 37 people were injured, including a five-month-old baby. The circumstances of the injuries and the condition of the victims are being clarified, and medical and rescue units continue to operate at the scene.

Series of strikes on Odesa

Odesa remains under constant enemy attacks. Thus, on September 10, Russian forces attacked warehouses with humanitarian aid in the city, and on September 8 a strike was carried out on the "7th Kilometer" market in the suburbs. The overnight attack of September 12 and its consequences — the damaged high-rise, dozens of the injured, and a person killed under the rubble — became a new episode in this series.
