People's Artist of Ukraine Olga Sumska openly shared how she copes with the difficult times of war while living in Kyiv. In an interview with the program "Khto zverhu," cited by RBC-Ukraine, the actress admitted that her home is located just 800 meters from the Lukyanivka district — a place associated with her student years and personal memories.
The Courage of Ordinary People
Sumska noted that it is particularly hard to see the consequences of Russian attacks on her native district. However, it is precisely in these moments that she finds inspiration in ordinary people. The actress confessed that she is amazed by the saleswomen who continue to work even against the backdrop of a destroyed market.
"When I see these saleswomen, who continue to trade against the backdrop of the bombed Lukyanivsky market, I cannot hold back my emotions. For me, this is simply a model of courage. They are unyielding and unbending Ukrainians," Sumska shared.
According to the actress, she has known these women for many years and remembers their names. Their resilience serves as an example for her of how important it is not to give up.
Work as Salvation
Work remains the main support for Olga Sumska during difficult times. Her profession helps her, if only for a short while, to distract herself from the horror of what is happening around her. Filming, creative meetings, and new projects give her the strength to move forward.
"Thanks to my profession, I can at least temporarily distract myself from the horror around. Work really saves, it allows me to switch focus," the actress admitted.
War and Personal Feelings
Sumska has repeatedly shared her feelings regarding the full-scale war. At the beginning of the invasion, she did not want to leave Kyiv and stayed in the capital with her family. During air raids, they hid in safe places, and prayer helped the actress cope with her anxiety.
Later, she left for Italy with her daughter but soon returned to Kyiv. Sumska has repeatedly emphasized that she does not plan to leave her native city, despite constant Russian attacks.
Strike on Dovzhenko Film Studio
The Alexander Dovzhenko Film Studio holds special significance for the actress and was also damaged by attacks. As a result of the strike, costumes associated with her creative career were destroyed. This event became another reminder of the price of war and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
Despite all the difficulties, Olga Sumska continues to work and inspire others with her resilience and love for her profession.
