The process of forming a new cabinet of ministers has officially begun in Armenia. The political life of the republic has entered a new phase after the parliamentary majority determined the candidate for the head of the government.
Key decision of the "Civil Contract" party
The "Civil Contract" party, which holds the majority of seats in the National Assembly, officially announced the nomination of its leader, Nikol Pashinyan, for the position of Prime Minister. This decision became a logical continuation of the results of the recent elections and solidified the political strategy of the country's dominant force.
Party representatives confirmed that the full package of documents necessary to launch the appointment procedure has already been submitted to the President of Armenia. This step is a mandatory stage provided for by the constitutional norms of the republic.
Constitutional framework and the President's actions
According to the current Constitution of Armenia, after the newly elected parliament takes office, the President is obliged to immediately appoint as Prime Minister the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority. This requirement eliminates any questions about possible delays or political bargaining at this stage.
Earlier, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachatryan, already fulfilled his part of the constitutional procedure: he accepted the resignation of the previous government. The cabinet of ministers resigned at the beginning of the first session of the new convocation of the National Assembly, which is a standard practice for the transfer of power in the country.
