Near the Pidzamche railway station in Lviv, a serious transport accident occurred: a passenger diesel train operating on the Lviv — Sokal route collided with an electric locomotive. As a result of the severe impact, five people sustained injuries and promptly required medical assistance.
Accident Consequences and Victims' Condition
According to the official information from the railway carrier, the diesel train driver sustained the most serious injury, specifically a leg injury, and was hospitalized. In addition, four passengers who were inside the carriages at the time of the collision sought medical help. Fortunately, the electric locomotive drivers were uninjured.
Currently, specialized experts, State Emergency Service personnel, and a special Ukrzaliznytsia commission are working intensively at the scene. Specialists are investigating the circumstances, interviewing witnesses, and determining the technical causes that led to the accident on the tracks.
General Context of Ukrainian Infrastructure Security
It is worth noting that this incident occurred against the backdrop of ongoing systemic threats to Ukraine's railway infrastructure caused by military actions. Enterprises and transport hubs are regularly subjected to enemy strikes, as was the case on September 28, when more than ten employees were injured as a result of shelling on infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia.
Due to permanent threats and an unstable security situation, Ukrzaliznytsia is forced to strictly regulate train traffic. In particular, new instructions have been introduced, and rules for the emergency stopping of trains even during a 'yellow' alert level have been detailed to preserve the lives of passengers and crews.
