Warsaw is radically changing its approach to modernizing the armed forces, relying on real combat experience gained by neighboring Ukraine. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that the country is integrating tactical solutions that have proven effective in the confrontation with Russia, placing a bet on unmanned systems and artificial intelligence.

Total War

According to the head of the defense ministry, the conflict in Ukraine demonstrates that modern warfare has become total. Hundreds of clashes involving conventional equipment — tanks, artillery, and infantry — are recorded daily on the front lines. Kosiniak-Kamysz cited specific figures: in just one week, the Russian side carried out 904 attacks.

Particular attention in the minister's report is paid to the role of drones. It was with maritime drones, both surface and underwater, that the transformation of the enemy's tactics began, which effectively put the Black Sea Fleet out of action. Later, aerial and ground vehicles were added, changing the landscape of hostilities.

Modernization Priorities

Poland is implementing these solutions into its defense structure, developing capabilities in all areas: land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. The main directions for updating the army have become:

  • Unmanned and anti-drone systems;
  • Artificial intelligence;
  • High-precision long-range strike systems;
  • Satellite reconnaissance.

Kosiniak-Kamysz announced a fundamental change in personnel training: all recruits will undergo a mandatory course on the use of drones. Unmanned vehicles will become standard equipment for every branch of the armed forces, not just an auxiliary tool.

Threat of Provocations

In the context of strengthening defense capabilities, Warsaw is also considering the risks of hybrid threats. Experts warn that Russia may be preparing provocations under a false flag against NATO countries to undermine political support for Ukraine. Among the scenarios being considered is the use of drones disguised as Ukrainian ones to attack Baltic countries and stage provocations on Polish territory.
