Poland maintains a firm position in favor of the immediate launch of negotiation clusters concerning Ukraine's accession to the European Union. This was stated by Taras Kachka, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, while speaking to journalists.
Support from Key Partners
According to Kachka, Warsaw is not an obstacle to European integration. On the contrary, Poland advocates for accelerating the process. Bulgaria holds a similar position. The official emphasized that both countries are not opposing the opening of negotiations, creating a favorable backdrop for Kyiv's further movement towards Brussels.
Political Context and the Role of Hungary
Kachka pointed out that the European Union itself is interested in the earliest possible start of work on the clusters. The political declaration to begin the process was adopted a year ago, but implementation was blocked by Hungary's actions. Now, considering the change in political circumstances and the formation of a new government in Budapest, EU logic suggests opening all six clusters.
Frontloading Mechanism
While awaiting the formal start of negotiations, Brussels proposed the "frontloading" mechanism to Kyiv. This solution allowed Ukraine to receive accession conditions and begin working on their fulfillment without waiting for the official procedure to open dialogue. The EU actively supported this approach to ensure the integration process did not stall.
Unity of Member States
Today, almost all EU member states advocate for the swift opening of clusters for Ukraine. An important signal was the statement by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, who called on the EU to immediately open all negotiation tracks.
Particular attention is paid to the role of Poland. First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslytsia, expressed confidence that Warsaw would not use its veto right to block European integration. According to him, Ukraine has fulfilled all necessary conditions for the clusters to be opened.
Progress in COREPER
Against the backdrop of these statements, a concrete result has already been recorded. On July 10, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States (COREPER) approved the opening of the sixth cluster in negotiations on Ukraine's European integration. This decision became an important step on the path to full membership.
