In Poland, a noticeable shift in public sentiment is being recorded: sociological data indicates a deterioration in the country's citizens' attitude towards Ukrainians. The results of a recent study conducted by the company Opinia24 show that more than a third of respondents admitted that their stance has become less positive in recent times.
Sentiment Statistics
According to sociologists, 36% of the Poles surveyed directly stated that their attitude towards Ukrainians has worsened. At the same time, the majority of survey participants (54%) indicated that their position has remained unchanged since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia. Only 3% of respondents noted an improvement in their attitude towards the Ukrainian people.
Attitude towards EU integration and support
The study also revealed critical sentiments in Polish society regarding the prospects of Ukraine's EU integration and further military support for Kyiv. These issues are raising increasing doubts among citizens, reflecting fatigue from the protracted conflict and a rise in pragmatic sentiments.
Decision to strip the order
Significant resonance was caused by the decision of the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, to strip the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, of the Order of the White Eagle. The poll showed that the majority of Poles (55%) supported this step. Only 27% of respondents opposed the deprivation of the award.
Context of the migration crisis
These data complement the picture painted by previous studies. Earlier, it was recorded that in Poland, for the first time in the history of sociological observations, the number of opponents of accepting Ukrainian refugees exceeded the number of their supporters. This indicates profound changes in public consciousness and a possible review of the policy of supporting Ukraine at the state level.
