The Polish political elite faces a serious challenge linked to the rise of aggressive sentiments in society. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued a stern statement addressed to the head of state, demanding immediate intervention in the situation regarding violence, the victims of which are increasingly Ukrainian citizens.
«Indifference is the Ideal Breeding Ground for Evil»
According to the Prime Minister, the culture of violence in the country is becoming bolder and more brazen. Tusk explicitly pointed out that thugs and hooligans feel a sense of impunity, which, in his view, is fueled by political support within the country. The head of government cited a specific example, noting that a man who beat a Ukrainian citizen openly boasted about his role as a "border defender".
In his address to the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, the Prime Minister emphasized that the silence of the authorities is unacceptable. "Do not remain indifferent. We know that indifference is the root of crime. It is the ideal environment for the flourishing of hooliganism, brutal crimes, and evil," Tusk stated, urging the head of state to take control of the situation.
Blow to Poland's Interests
Donald Tusk also reminded that the humiliation of Ukrainians damages Poland's own interests. In this regard, he called on the citizens of the country not to stand aside and to immediately report cases of violence to law enforcement agencies. In the Prime Minister's conviction, only an active response from society and the authorities can stop the escalation of aggression.
Brutal Attack in Wrocław
The reason for such a sharp reaction from the country's leadership was the events of July 27. In Wrocław, a group of young people brutally beat a Ukrainian woman and her boyfriend. The incident caused a wide resonance and required an immediate response from diplomatic departments.
Andriy Sybiga, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, immediately ordered the General Consulate to take urgent measures after the news broke. Soon, the police detained the suspects in the attack. Sybiga stated that the Ukrainian side expects a full, objective, and impartial investigation, the establishment of all motives for the crime, and the just punishment of the guilty.
