The Zhytomyr football club "Polesye" continues its active work on the transfer market. The team, which finished third in the last season of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL), announced the signing of a contract with 23-year-old Venezuelan defensive midfielder Andrusv Araujo.
Transfer details and player career
According to the club's official statement, the agreement with the Venezuelan is for three years. The newcomer has chosen the number 22 jersey. Last season, Araujo played for Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih, where he participated in 26 Ukrainian Championship matches, although he did not record any goal contributions.
On the international stage, the footballer has already made his debut for the Venezuelan national team. This happened in March of this year in a match against the Trinidad and Tobago team, where Araujo played a full half.
Polesye's transfer campaign
Araujo's arrival is part of a major squad overhaul for the Zhytomyr club. During the off-season, the team has already signed full contracts with goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan and midfielder Maksym Bragaru. Previously, the squad was strengthened by Ghanaian defensive midfielder Abofra Vince and Cape Verdean midfielder Leandro Andrade.
At the same time, several players have left the club: Alexey Hutsulyak, Lucas Taylor, Tomer Yosefi, Serhiy Korniychuk, and Bohdan Lednev. Information about the future career of one of the team's leaders, Alexey Hutsulyak, was announced separately.
Start of the new season
The team, under the leadership of Ruslan Rotan, is preparing for the start of the new season. The first official match is scheduled for July 23 as part of the second qualifying round of the Conference League. Due to calendar specifics, the nominally home game will take place in Slovakia at the stadium in Košice. The return match will be held on July 30 at the Danish "Parken" stadium.
