The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland has officially confirmed the death of a Polish volunteer on the territory of Ukraine as a result of Russian military actions. The death of the Polish citizen, who was participating in a humanitarian mission, confirms the growing risks for foreign nationals working in frontline zones.
Official confirmation and government reaction
Maciej Wewiór, a representative of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement expressing his "deepest condolences" to the family of the deceased. The statement emphasized that the death occurred specifically during Russian attacks. The diplomatic ministry assured that it is ready to provide all possible consular assistance to the deceased's relatives and to assist in resolving issues related to his death.
"With deep regret, I confirm the death of a Polish volunteer in Ukraine, who died as a result of Russian military actions," Wewiór stated.
Circumstances of the tragedy
The humanitarian group "Together for Ukraine" was the first to report the tragedy on July 30. According to the organization, the man served as an administrator for their social media pages. The tragedy occurred approximately on July 27 in Kharkiv.
The cause of death was a strike by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (drone). According to media reports, the deceased is Marek Rusek-Wolski. He was known for his active activities: he regularly delivered humanitarian aid to Ukraine, bringing supplies to communities located in close proximity to the front line.
Context of losses among volunteers and defenders
The case of the death of Marek Rusek-Wolski is not isolated. In the context of the ongoing conflict, victims are not only military personnel but also civilians helping Ukraine. Earlier, there were reports of the death of 45-year-old Ukrainian actor and defender Yevhen Bushmakin, known for the film "Hero of My Time".
Also on the list of the deceased was athlete and coach Dmytro Rusetskyi. He died while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Pysarivka in the Sumy region. These cases indicate that the war affects people of various professions and nationalities, united by the goal of supporting Ukraine.
