On October 18, the Central Stadium in Zhytomyr hosted a Ukrainian Premier League match of the ninth matchday between local FC Polissya and Kyiv's Dynamo. The encounter was remembered not only for its sporting action, but also for a series of incidents in the stands: a scuffle broke out in the capital club's fan sector, and the game was interrupted several times due to pyrotechnics and air raid alert announcements. Sport RBC.UA reports on the incident, citing the Telegram channel 'Futbolny sektor'.
What the footage from the stands showed
The 'Futbolny sektor' Telegram channel published a video of the clash. The footage shows several people participating in a fight in the stands while other spectators watch the conflict. According to available reports, the causes of the collision have not yet been established. No information regarding potential casualties had been received at the time of publication.
Pyrotechnics and game stoppages
The fight was not the only incident in the stands. In the 28th minute, main referee Maksym Kozyryatsky announced a technical pause due to the excessive use of pyrotechnics by fans. A heavy smoke screen formed over the football pitch, hindering the continuation of the match. In addition to this pause, the match was twice stopped due to air raid alerts.
Result: Polissya's victory with a man down
Despite all the twists and turns, the match was played to the end. Zhytomyr's Polissya secured a 3-1 victory, even though they played a man down from the fifth minute: hosts' goalkeeper Oleh Kudryk received a direct red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area. Thus, the team spent the overwhelming majority of the encounter with ten men and still took three points from the Kyiv side.
Context
The combination of a scuffle, pyrotechnics, and multiple stoppages amid air raid alerts once again highlights the complexity of holding matches under current conditions and stadium security issues. It was separately noted that ahead of the meeting, the media space discussed the topic of a possible return of one of the Kyiv club's former forwards as head coach, though this had no relation to the match itself.
