Razer has introduced the Barracuda V2 Pro wireless headset, which the manufacturer positions as a versatile solution covering two distinct use cases: stationary PC gaming and mobile listening on the go. The novelty is already on sale priced at €219.99. The model's concept relies on abandoning the "either wire or Bluetooth" compromise: the headset should perform equally well in a home gaming session and on the road, without requiring the user to reconnect the device for each task.
Dual Connection Channel and SmartSwitching
The main technological feature of the Barracuda V2 Pro is support for simultaneous connection via the proprietary HyperSpeed Wireless channel (2.4 GHz band) and Bluetooth 6.0. This allows, for example, maintaining an active PC connection for gaming while staying connected to a smartphone. Switching between channels is performed using a separate SmartSwitch button, eliminating the need to fiddle with settings when changing audio sources.
Audio: 40mm TriForce Drivers and THX Spatial Sound
Reproduction is handled by 40mm TriForce Bio-Cellulose drivers, Razer's proprietary diaphragm technology combining multiple materials to separate frequency ranges. On PC, the headset supports virtual THX Spatial Audio+ surround sound in a 7.1.4 format; however, the manufacturer notes that this implementation is exclusive to Windows 11, narrowing the spatial audio application scenario to Microsoft's current desktop platform.
Two Communication Scenarios: Boom Mic and Built-in Capsules
For voice communication, Razer has implemented two independent solutions. For home use, a detachable microphone on a flexible boom is provided — a classic choice for calls and in-game team chat. For outdoor and mobile use, built-in beamforming microphones with AI noise cancellation are utilized to better separate the speaker's voice from background noise. This approach allows users not to take off the headset or mess with the microphone when changing usage scenarios.
Battery Life, Weight, and Foldable Design
The device weighs 285 grams and features a foldable design, simplifying transportation. Regarding battery life, Razer claims up to 70 hours of operation without active noise cancellation and up to 50 hours with ANC enabled. The 20-hour difference reflects the energy consumption of the noise suppression system, which is typical for hybrid headsets with ANC.
Price and Availability
The Barracuda V2 Pro is already available for purchase at €219,99. In terms of positioning, the model falls into the upper-mid segment of wireless gaming headsets, where the key argument is precisely its hybrid nature: simultaneous operation via HyperSpeed and Bluetooth 6.0, dual microphone scenarios, and long battery life in a single enclosure.
