The cinematic universe of "Resident Evil" returns to the big screen, but this time without its legendary heroine. Milla Jovovich, who played Alice in six films, will not appear in the new movie. The creators have decided to do a full reboot of the franchise, offering audiences a completely new story and a new protagonist who will find themselves at the epicenter of a zombie apocalypse.

A New Hero and a New Story

The director of the new project is Jake Kasdan, known for the films "Barbarian" and "The Weapon 2". He decided not to continue the plotlines of the previous films, but to create a separate story within the familiar universe. The main character will not be the action-hero Alice, but an ordinary person — a medical courier named Brian.

The role of Brian has been given to American actor Austin Abrams. In the first trailer, already presented to the public, it is shown how his ordinary job suddenly leads to dangerous events that radically change his life. The film is based on the cult video game series, so the creators tried to return to the roots, although with new characters.

The Legacy of Milla Jovovich

The previous film saga became one of the most successful video game adaptations in history, grossing over a billion dollars worldwide. The series was released from 2002 to 2016 and consisted of six parts. Milla Jovovich embodied the character of Alice — a character created specifically for the movies, who does not exist in the original games.

Alice's story was epic: the heroine fought against infected people, mutants, and the Umbrella Corporation, responsible for creating the virus. Despite its popularity, the films only partially followed the game's plot. The final point in Jovovich's story was the 2016 film "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter".

Premiere in Ukraine

The new "Resident Evil" will open a new page for the franchise, offering audiences a different vision of the universe. The film's premiere in Ukraine is scheduled for September 17. Audiences will see how the medical courier Brian copes with the threats that Alice previously held back.
