The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) has officially announced the completion of rescue operations in Kyiv following a massive missile strike on the capital. The operation to eliminate the consequences lasted about half a day. According to the agency, 9 people were killed as a result of the attack, and the number of injured reached 33, including four children.
206 rescuers and 42 units of special equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences. During the dismantling of debris and evacuation from damaged buildings, SESU employees rescued 105 people. 35 residents were evacuated from just one burning five-story building in the Solomianskyi district.
Distribution of victims and injured
According to the final report, the main blow fell on the Darnytskyi and Solomianskyi districts. 7 people were killed in the Darnytskyi district, and two in the Solomianskyi district. Among the dead was a 22-year-old patrol police officer who died while providing first aid to civilians during a second strike.
17 people are currently in hospital wards, four of them in critical condition. Among the injured are teenagers aged 13, 14 and 17.
Scale of destruction in city districts
Emergency services recorded debris falls and direct hits in 7 districts of the capital:
- Darnytskyi district: The greatest damage to civilian infrastructure was recorded here. Four buildings of a commercial enterprise were partially destroyed, multi-story residential buildings were damaged. A crater about two meters deep was formed in a square at the site of one of the hits. Two of the victims — a mother and daughter — died on a pedestrian crossing while trying to reach shelter.
- Solomianskyi district: There was partial destruction and a serious fire in a 5-story residential building, cars in the courtyard parking lot were completely destroyed.
- Shevchenkivskyi district: The sector of medicine and culture was seriously affected. A missile strike destroyed 5 ambulances of the "Kyivmedspetstrans" company, another 20 medical vehicles were seriously damaged. A major fire on the territory of the local film studio was also extinguished.
- Pecherskyi district: 4 private residential houses and outbuildings were damaged. The building of the Lithuanian embassy suffered minor damage.
- Dniprovskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Holosiivskyi districts: Damage to supermarkets, shops, window blocks in residential buildings and civilian vehicles was recorded.
Law enforcement agencies have already received 278 applications from citizens about property damage. 18 apartment and private houses, two schools and a medical clinic were damaged.
