On July 26, the crew of the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft will land on Earth. The team concluding their mission includes Russian cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Micaev, as well as NASA astronaut Christopher Williams. Roscosmos emphasized that the current stage of preparation is focused not so much on the landing procedure itself, but on adapting the body to returning to familiar terrestrial conditions, specifically to the effects of gravity.
Fighting Weightlessness
The main challenge for a person after a long stay in space is the functioning of the cardiovascular system. In microgravity, blood redistributes, and the body "forgets" how to keep it in the legs when in an upright position. To avoid dizziness and fainting immediately after landing, the crew undergoes special training.
The "Chibis-M" Technology
In the final stage of the flight, cosmonauts use the preventive vacuum suit "Chibis-M". Its principle of operation is based on creating negative relative pressure on the lower half of the body. This artificially imitates the blood outflow that occurs under the influence of Earth's gravity.
Regular wearing of the suit "teaches" the body to redistribute blood pressure in an upright posture again. According to the state corporation, this measure is critically important for the safe adaptation of the crew to life on Earth after the end of the flight.
