A major personnel reshuffle is unfolding in Kyiv, affecting not only the security sector but also the technological sphere. Immediately following a series of high-profile appointments in the defense ministry, public attention has shifted to the potential return to the government of former Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov.
Proposal from the President
Information about the potential new role for the former official emerged during the evening video address of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The head of state confirmed that he held a personal meeting with Mykhailo Fedorov, during which the specialist's future work within the government structure was discussed.
The President of Ukraine outlined the essence of the proposal: "There was a meeting with Mykhailo Fedorov. I offered Mykhailo a worthy position in the government that would allow us to unite the technological component of our state".
However, despite the public statement, the details remain vague. Zelenskyy did not specify the exact title of the position Fedorov is being offered, nor did he report whether the former minister accepted the proposal.
Reaction of the entourage and Fedorov's position
Journalists attempted to clarify the situation by turning to the President's advisor, Dmytro Lytvyn. In response to the question of whether Fedorov had agreed to the new role, Lytvyn suggested that the dialogue between the head of state and the former minister is not yet concluded and will likely continue.
Sources in Mykhailo Fedorov's entourage, interviewed by RBC-Ukraine, voiced a stricter position. According to them, after his resignation, the politician is ready to return to the government only for the position of Minister of Defense. Previously, Fedorov himself stated that the President had already offered him the role of advisor, but he declined.
Context of personnel reshuffles
The discussion about Fedorov's return takes place against the backdrop of a massive reorganization in Ukraine's defense sector. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially announced the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. He has been replaced by Mikhail Drapatyi.
Parallel to this, the head of state announced an update to the configuration of the General Staff. It is in this context that the proposal for a "worthy position" for Fedorov appears as part of a broad strategy to renew the country's management personnel.
