On the morning of October 8, 2026, rescue services in Kyiv confirmed the deaths of two people as a result of a destructive attack on a multi-story residential building. The incident occurred in the Desnianskyi district of the capital, where an enemy drone hit a 12-story building, causing a large-scale fire and partial structural collapse.

Chronology of the Night Attack and Rescue Operation

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the attack was launched late in the evening on October 7. An unmanned aerial vehicle made a targeted strike on a residential high-rise at the 10th-floor level. The blast wave and subsequent fire caused serious damage to several apartments. Firefighters and SES units that promptly arrived at the scene launched a rescue operation, during which 22 people were evacuated, including 8 children.

Victims and Extent of Destruction

During search and rescue operations in one of the destroyed apartments, the bodies of two deceased individuals were discovered. Official statistics from the agency also indicate four injured citizens, including two minor children. SES psychologists worked at the scene, providing emergency assistance to 12 residents of the building who suffered severe stress.

Additional Strikes on the Capital

It is worth noting that the attack on the Desnianskyi district was part of a massive raid. The Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded the movement of strike and jet drones not only toward Kyiv itself, but also to its suburban areas. Concurrently with the incident in the Desnianskyi district, on the evening of October 7, the Obolonskyi district of the capital also came under enemy attack, where, according to preliminary data, another person was killed and at least five others were wounded.

Contradictory Data

Operational reports from various agencies and local public channels initially featured disparate data regarding the number of victims and the scale of the destruction. While early Telegram channel reports indicated only four wounded without specifying children's ages, the morning official SES reports clearly divided the victims into adults and children, and confirmed the discovery of two dead in the Desnianskyi district while clarifying information on the parallel shelling of the Obolonskyi district.
