On the night of October 19, 2026, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukrainian territory using ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as hundreds of attack drones. According to preliminary data provided as of 09:00, air defense systems intercepted or suppressed 247 targets, although several impacts were recorded. The most serious consequences occurred in Kyiv, where, according to the State Emergency Service, one person was killed and eight were injured.
Attack Composition: ballistics, cruise missiles, and drones
According to published data, the attack involved Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles launched from the Smolensk, Bryansk, and Kursk regions of Russia. Iskander-K cruise missiles were launched from the airspace of the Kursk region. In addition to missiles, 269 Shahed attack drones were in the sky over Ukraine, 59 of which were jet-powered. S-8000 «Banderol», «Gerbera» drones, and «Parody» decoy drones were also recorded.
Launch Directions
Drones were launched from several directions: from the areas of Orel, Bryansk, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Shatalovo, Millerovo, occupied Donetsk, and Gvardeyskoye in occupied Crimea. This set of directions indicates the simultaneous use of multiple launch sites at a significant distance from the border.
Air Defense Results
According to preliminary data as of 09:00, air defense intercepted or suppressed 247 targets, including four Iskander-K cruise missiles and 243 drones: Shahed (43 of which were jet-powered), S-8000 «Banderol», «Gerbera», and other types. At the same time, impacts were recorded in 25 locations, and debris fell in another eight locations. Final figures may be updated as data is processed.
Consequences in Kyiv
In Kyiv, as a result of the night attack, one person was killed and eight were injured, according to the State Emergency Service. Impacts were recorded in at least three districts of the capital; a metro station and a 25-story residential building were damaged. The scale of the destruction and possible additional consequences are being clarified.
The Early Warning Issue
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, journalist Alex Raufoglu noted that Ukraine once again did not receive an early warning about the ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. The lack of timely notification reduces the time for the population to take cover and remains one of the factors increasing risks for civilians during ballistic missile launches.
