On the night of July 29, Ukraine faced a massive air attack. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia launched 229 attack unmanned aerial vehicles at the country's territory. This is one of the most massive drone attacks in recent times.

Scale and nature of the attack

The attack was carried out from all directions: north, east, and south. The Russian forces' arsenal included various types of drones, including:

  • 80 Shahed-type drones (including jet modifications);
  • "Gerbera" and "Italmas" drones;
  • "Banderoles" loitering munitions;
  • "Parody" type imitation drones.

The targets for the strikes were regions bordering Russia: Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, as well as Primorsko-TOR and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Air Defense results

As of 08:00, the Ukrainian air defense shot down or suppressed 65 enemy drones. Despite the efforts of the defenders, hits by 14 attack UAVs were recorded at 10 locations. Debris from shot-down drones also fell on two other territories.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned that the attack is ongoing and active targets remain in the sky. Citizens are advised to follow safety rules.

Context: series of attacks

On the night of July 28, Russia had already attacked Ukraine with 131 attack drones. Then, the air defense was also able to neutralize most of the targets, but damage and casualties were recorded.

During the day on July 28, strikes were carried out on the Mykolaiv region using "Shaheds", "Banderoles", and KABs. As a result, infrastructure objects, including a port and an industrial enterprise, were damaged. There are casualties among civilians.

It is separately noted that Russian forces carried out an air strike on a group of SES rescuers in the Zaporizhzhia region. The incident occurred during the extinguishing of a fire that arose after the previous attack.

The situation remains tense. The Air Force continues to monitor the airspace and work to protect the population. It is expected that data on losses and damage will be clarified in the coming hours.
