On the night of October 14, 2026, Russian forces launched a large-scale air attack on critical railway infrastructure objects across several regions of Ukraine. The strikes affected Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil oblasts simultaneously. According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, the aggressor purposefully tried to paralyze transport communication by targeting locomotive and railcar depots, repair enterprises, railway stations, and rolling stock.

Scale of Destruction and Consequences of Shelling

As a result of the night raid, serious damage was recorded to the energy infrastructure ensuring train movement. Due to out-of-gauge debris and track destruction, key logistics routes were temporarily blocked. Nevertheless, Ukrzaliznytsia's operational services immediately began eliminating the consequences, organizing alternative routes to ensure uninterrupted passenger and freight traffic. Particular attention was paid to the Kyiv railway hub, where train traffic was temporarily restricted due to a direct ballistic threat.

Contradictory Data

Despite the official statements by Ukrzaliznytsia management regarding the prompt restoration of power and the absence of casualties due to the timely evacuation of employees, independent sources and monitoring groups in local chats reported longer delays and large-scale power outages in adjacent settlements. Official agencies emphasize that all safety protocols prevented personnel losses, but the exact amount of material damage is yet to be assessed after expert inspections.

Railway Workers' Heroism and Resumption of Traffic

The company's management expressed immense gratitude to every employee for their dedication and coordinated work in extreme conditions. Passengers were also thanked for their patience and endurance under strict safety protocols. As of the morning of October 14, most trains delayed for safety reasons have been dispatched along their routes, and repair crews continue restoration work at the damaged sections.
