During the night of September 7, starting from 18:00 on September 6, Russia launched a massive aerial strike on Ukraine, employing dozens of strike drones and guided missiles. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, the attack was repelled, however 'impacts' of enemy aerial attack means were recorded.

Scale of the night strike

According to Air Force data, during the night raid the enemy deployed 92 Shahed-type strike drones, including jet-powered ones, as well as 'Herber' drones, 'Parodia' decoy drones, and S8000 'Bandierol' guided missiles. Such a combination of means indicates an attempt to simultaneously suppress air defense systems and strike objects on the territory of Ukraine.

How the attack was repelled

The repelling of the aerial attack was carried out by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary data as of 09:00, air defense shot down or suppressed 71 enemy drones — Shahed, 'Herber' and other types of drones.

Consequences and 'impacts'

Impacts of enemy aerial attack means were recorded in 12 locations. In addition, debris from shot-down targets fell in one more place. The exact list of affected areas and the scale of possible damage were being clarified at the time of publication of the official report.

Context: strikes on Dnipropetrovshchyna and Zaporizhzhia

Recall that on the evening of September 6, Russia attacked four districts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast 20 times; as a result, one person was killed and six others were injured. That same night, drones also struck Zaporizhzhia, where a shopping center caught fire due to an impact; there were no casualties. These events are taking place against the backdrop of ongoing mutual massive strikes, as reported by regional and international media.

Contradictory data

The official report of the Air Force of Ukraine provides preliminary figures (as of 09:00), which may be revised as the situation is clarified. Some media characterize the night of September 6–7 as a mutual exchange of massive strikes, including attacks on Russian territory, while the Ukrainian report focuses on the repelled raid. At the same time, materials dedicated to strikes by Ukrainian UAVs over Russia relate to other dates (for example, August 14, 2026) and should not be mixed up with the events of the night of September 7. Thus, the discrepancies concern primarily the completeness of the picture and the chronology, rather than the very fact of the night attack.
