Ukrainian freediver Kateryna Sadurska added another top-tier prize to her collection at the CMAS 2026 World Championships, currently being held in Roatán (Honduras). The athlete took first place in the constant weight without fins discipline, reaching a depth of 77 metres. This was reported by Sport RBC.UA, citing the official results of the championship.
The discipline and the final margin
In the constant weight without fins event, Sadurska posted a result of 77 metres, which secured her a comfortable first place. Her nearest rival from Italy trailed the Ukrainian by 12 metres, underscoring the scale of the leader's advantage and the stability of her technique at extreme depths. A gap of this magnitude at a world championship indicates that the fight for gold in this discipline effectively never materialised.
Favourite status and the standing world record
Heading into the no-fins discipline, Sadurska entered as the principal favourite: the standing CMAS world record in this event — 88 metres — belongs to her. The declared and successfully executed depth of 77 metres was not a record attempt for her, but a competitive dive in which the Ukrainian reaffirmed her status as one of the strongest freedivers on the planet, retaining her lead without risking her personal record.
A growing haul at the Honduran championship
This medal was already Kateryna's third at the Roatán tournament and her second gold. Earlier she won the constant weight with fins discipline, posting a result of 108 metres. In addition, Sadurska took silver in the variable weight (free) discipline, where the gold medal — set alongside a world record — was claimed by another Ukrainian representative, Natalya Zharkova. Thus, the Ukrainian team continues to dominate women's freediving at this championship.
Format and schedule of the tournament
The world championship under the auspices of the World Underwater Activities Federation (CMAS) will run in Honduras until 27 August 2026. Additional disciplines remain open for Sadurska and Zharkova, making new medals and potential record attempts possible in the remaining days of competition.
